  The life I love - The pianist Menahem Pressler The music world has known Menahem Pressler for more than half a century and mainly for his work with the famous Beaux Arts Trio. He was the heart of this ensemble and when in 2008 the trio decided to separate, it was not the end for Menahem Pressler's career - in fact it was the start of a most remarkable and successful path as a soloist and in 2013, the 90-year-old grand seigneur of the piano gave his long overdue debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 'The life I love - the pianist Menahem Pressler', from talks with Pressler over excerpts from one of his Master Classes, to interviews with artists like Daniel Harding, Quatuor Ébene, Leonidas Kavakos or Daniel Hope, we will gain deep insights into the life of this enchantingly 'venerable prodigy'.   Closed - A Ballet from Real Life Many people live in a closed world. What happens to them when they step onto an arena where they can be themselves, free of their usual roles and status? In the film 'Closed' we encounter four completely different people who once a week leave their everyday lives and get together in a closed café, where they get the opportunity and help to relax and momentarily distance themselves from reality. These encounters have a certain touch of ritual to them. Then, an alien element is introduced: A famous musician, the cellist Truls Mork, has been given the proprietor's permission to rehearse a piece that he will later play in town. The music, Zoltan Kodály's Sonata for solo cello Op. 8, is intense and riveting and affects all four of them to an extent that has consequences for them all. The whole thing ends in mayhem, which perhaps was necessary for them all to be able to move on with their lives. Even the café gets a new lease of life, with a new proprietor. In German, 'Betroffenheit' denotes a state of shock and disbelief. This unusual ballet was inspired by terrible events in the life of choreographer Young, who lost his daughter, niece, and nephew in a terrible fire during a family vacation. A mix of tap, salsa, spoken-word, song, and puppet show, this stirring artistic statement is guaranteed to stir the emotions with its poignant depiction of personal hardship and of the struggle to come to terms with tragedy, beautifully realized by Kidd Pivot and the Electric Company Theatre on the stage of London's Sadler's Wells Theatre.
